Adobe Acrobat is one of the most powerful PDF reading and editing software available today. Of course, Adobe Acrobat also supports you to split and merge PDF files quickly.
1. Instructions to split PDF files with Adobe Acrobat software
Note: If your computer only has Adobe Acrobat Reader version, you cannot perform PDF splitting. These tools are only supported on Acrobat DC and Pro.
Step 1: Open PDF files in Acrobat, you right click go to PDF file >> Open with >> Adobe Acrobat DC (or Adobe Acrobat Pro).
Step 2: When the file is opened in Acrobat, you navigate to the View in the top menu.
Step 3: Continue to choose Tools >> Organize Pages >> Open.
Note: If you use Adobe Acrobat Pro, go to Tools >> Page (right menu).
Step 4: You will now see the PDF pages presented on the screen as a grid. Please select tool Split at the top of the screen.
If you use Adobe Acrobat Pro, select tools Split Document.
Step 5: If you want to split the PDF file by the number of pages, choose Split by as Number of pages. The number behind you fills in the fixed number of pages of a PDF file after splitting.
- Eg: My original file has 2 pages, I want to split it into 2 files, 1 page each. Here I fill in first.
- Eg: Your original file has 300 pages, you want to split it into 5 files, 60 pages each. Here you fill in 60.
Step 6: Choose Output Options if you want to make some other settings.
Target Folders: Select output directory along with current file (The Same…), or another specific folder (A Folder on My Computer).
Filename: Set the output file name.
- Use bookmark names for file names: Set file names based on bookmarks
- Add label and number before original name: Add symbols and numbers before the original file name
- Add label and number after original name: Add symbols and numbers after the original file name
Use Labels: Set the symbol you want, the default is Part.
Use separator between original name and label: Add a separator between the original name and the symbol. Default is “_”.
Do not overwrite existing files: Do not overwrite existing files.
Step 7: After you have set up the file split, click Split to proceed with the split.
Thus, you have successfully performed the file splitting operation in Acrobat. Please open the folder where the file is saved to check the results.
2. Instructions for merging files with Adobe Acrobat
In addition to the split feature, Acrobat also supports you to merge 2 separate PDF files.
Step 1: Open Adobe Acrobat DC or Pro on your computer (no need to open the PDF file yet).
Step 2: Select tool Combine Files on the home page or the right column.
If for some reason you don’t see this tool, open View >> Tools >> Combine Files >> Open.
