AmericaNearly three months after buying the lottery ticket and quickly forgetting about it, Wilbur Brown, from Oregon, realized he had won $8.9 million.
Last Christmas, Brown bought a “$25 for $26” Megabucks ticket at a Springfield motel store. The lottery allowed him to enter 26 consecutive draws for $25, meaning Brown could win before the Feb. 19 draw.

However, after just a few weeks, he forgot his ticket. “I only checked the results of the previous draws,” he said. “After that, I forgot and never saw the results.”
It wasn’t until February that Brown returned to the store where he bought the lottery tickets and gave employees a random ticket scan code. He receives the message “The player has won the jackpot”. Brown and his friends immediately went online and found out that he had won the $8.9 million jackpot.
According to the Oregon Lottery, Brown’s lucky numbers are 15, 33, 34, 40, 42 and 47. He chose to receive a 30-year bonus rather than the full amount at once. Under this option, Brown will receive more than $200,000 in after-tax income annually until that amount is paid.
According to the Oregon Lottery, the odds of winning are just 1 in 6,135,756. The store that sold the lottery tickets to Brown also took home an $89,000 retailer bonus, or 1 percent of the jackpot.
