“When you grow up, remember to go to all of Vietnam!”
When I said goodbye to Mrs. Hang’s family, I walked towards Hoa Binh, to the section … near Hong Da municipality, I saw a boy cycling on the dike and shouted:
- COME SO DEAR !!!
- Thank you, what’s your name?
- My name is Su, where are you going?
- I’m going through Vietnam, what class are you in?
- I’m in 7th grade
- Where is your house?
- My house is close
Two brothers, one stepping on the dam, the other on the asphalt shouted to talk to each other, sometimes the two brothers kept stepping on the pedals without saying a word, and approaching the house the boy shouted: “I am home, came to my house to play! “, then it was getting dark, so I said goodbye to the boy, for some reason I shouted at the time:
– “When you grow up, remember to cycle to the end of Vietnam!”
Now the boy that day is also a 20-year-old student, I do not know if you remember the conversation with the two brothers, but honestly, on any trip, sometimes an encouraging word. Loneliness is also very precious. As for going to the end of Vietnam, then I personally think that if possible, any young Vietnamese person should go through Vietnam at least once, I joked with my friends that: I think this is a ” duty “for the youth.
After the first trip through Vietnam, I realized that Vietnam – my homeland is very beautiful and rich in both landscape and culture, people who later went to Southeast Asia further confirmed this statement. Nam’s beauty is not inferior to other countries in the region, diverse in terrain and rich in customs and traditions from 54 ethnic groups. Young people who have not been able to reach far can go all over Vietnam to discover their entire homeland, see the difference between regions, go to expand their horizons, to see and understand the difference, I am sure, that the will was a very wonderful experience. And the price is not expensive if you go on backpacking.
When I returned to my last afternoon in Phu Tho, bye bye the sky was also dark, I stopped the car across the road and captured a sunset so beautiful that I did not want to go any further as I leaned my car against the road marker. , just sitting and watching. Everything around was quiet, I just sat there until the sun went down and suddenly thought I had no place to sleep last night.
First time experience of asking to sleep on the plains
I was in the middle of a deserted room, sir, which seemed suitable for a night’s sleep. Earlier on my trips to the Northwest, I asked to sleep once in the house of a Hmong man in the Northwest, but it was in the high mountains that one can easily ask to sleep in a village and sleep at home. For Kinh people in the delta, it’s the first time …
I became the first family – a duck farm, I think if I ask to sleep with families who are not feeling well, people will worry less about safety and easily let me stay. The whole family ate dinner in a level 4 house, for the first time I was a little nervous when you know I am shy by nature, I stammered and said I was cycling through Vietnam and would ask for help. for one night the family was very friendly but could not let me stay because there was not enough space in the house.
Don’t know if you remember the movie Journey to the West? I was just as polite as Master and Sa Sang, not the Eight Regulations and Sun Wukong who went to bed asking for people to run away but failed the first time. The little boy in their family told me: “You are camping on the dike over there, you are not afraid of thieves here” …
I’m not afraid of thieves, but I’m afraid of the dark …
Oh! It seems to be difficult … I decided to pedal another 2 km to the densely populated area ahead.
I went to the pumping station to beg: people were shaking their heads.
I stopped at a roadside bar: people were shaking their heads.
I have already chosen a public authority and a pub by the road with enough space to pitch a tent, but it still does not work? It’s getting darker and darker, I’m starting to get worried, I do not know what to do? The confidence gets weaker every time I look at this house, I would like to ask for leave, but the big house is too scared that they refuse, the other house is too small, they let me in right? Beg, beg until I find a house that has just been built, the walls are still in the color of the freshly painted mortar, the door is open and the yard is big, I am ready for the worst case. farm.
“Hi! I’m going through Vietnam, it’s too dark to get here and I want to camp here and spend the night here, here’s my ID, can you let me stay for the night?”
“Okay! Go in and sleep!”
I was surprised to hear him say that.
- Where are my parents?
- My parents work far away, I’m home alone
- I’m home alone, but I dare let you sleep because I’m not scared?
He just smiles, his name is Tuan, he is in 11th grade in Hong Da municipality.
- Why is the name Hong Da here?
- Because in my municipality is the intersection between Red River and Da River
- Do your parents work far away or do you come back?
- My parents go to buy tangled hair in Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa rarely comes home, my parents go to buy tangled hair, they all ask to sleep with people’s houses there.
That night Tuan cooked rice for me to eat, the two brothers talked for a while and then fell asleep on the mat in the middle of the house. It was my first experience of asking for sleep, a little difficult at first, later I have more experience, traveling around Southeast Asia and asking for sleep has become a well-known skill, but also many times I have to sleep on the sidewalk, on a rock bench, I joke that the whole municipality will not give it to me.
Do not know what time it is Tuan now? I do not know if this bad boy is learning a certain profession, figuring out what he loves or not? But I believe that friendly people like Tuan will have a lot of luck.
Tuan, my brother let me sleep in Hong Da.
Why ask for an overnight stay?
You may be wondering why I can not find motels, hotels? On my journey, I will challenge myself by taking some money with me and asking for a bed to save money and experience life with the locals.
Through asking for a bed, asking for drinking water at the roadside, I have the opportunity to meet, learn, chat and make friends with people. During those sleep times, I now have several close friends all over the country and abroad.
* Experience in applying for an overnight stay: it will be difficult to apply in the central area, crowded residential area, city, because now many people cheat, insecurity. But to the mountainous areas, or areas outside the island, wild places, people’s lives have not yet developed, you can ask to sleep with the village chief, the police … Remember to bring identification and sea as many as you can prove, that you are a sweet, honest person and go with as clear a purpose as possible. I often use this method when I go to places where there are no hostels and would like to experience life with the locals.
