Hi guys, like the title of the article, in this article, let’s discuss it What is the best 2-factor authentication app to use?the most prestigious, the most secure and the safest.
I will not repeat what a 2-factor authentication application is anymore, because on the blog there are articles that cannot be more detailed. If you are still confused about the concept of two-factor authentication, here it is, read it first:
Please note that in this article, I only refer to 2-factor authentication applications such as Google Authenticator, Authy, Microsoft Authenticator, LastPass Authenticator … but I am not talking about 2-factor authentication. e.g. SMS, Security key…)
Personally, I’ve only used two apps, Google Authenticator and Authy. So I can only rate these 2 applications only. So, if you are using another application, please leave your opinion about those applications below in the comment section 🙂
I. Compare Google Authenticator and Authy . Apps
First, you can take a look at the interface of these two applications to have a better overview:

#first. About APP security level
Google Authenticator is a product of Google, it is designed in a very simple way. And the feature of this application could not be simpler, it has no other features than displaying the authentication code, there is no option to set up a password to protect the application.
That means, anyone holding your phone can easily open and view the content inside the Google Authenticator app.
The Authy application is different, this application allows you to set up a password (can be PIN, fingerprint or Face ID).
Here is the setup of the Authy app:
=> So on this point, Authy has already eaten Google Authenticator.
#2. About the ability to synchronize and safe for users
This is probably one of the most important things that users need to pay attention to when choosing a 2-factor authentication application.
Google Authenticator at the moment does not have any form of backup. This means that if you accidentally lose your phone, the possibility of you losing your account is very high (if you didn’t save your information before setting up 2-factor authentication).
Saying Google Authenticator does not have any form of backup seems a bit unfair to Google. Actually yes, but you have to remember Personal Key
Install the app for the first time. But the bad thing is that very few people do this.
Many of you have lost your account just because you lost your phone or for some reason could not access Google Authenticator.
And Authy is different, Authy supports syncing to the cloud. This means that you just need to enter your exact phone number on another phone, or your other device, and you have a safe backup.
=> This makes Authy also eat Google Authenticator. And it is for this reason that I decided to switch from Google Authenticator to Authy.
#3. Support Platform
Currently, Google Authenticator only supports 2 main mobile platforms, iOS and Android. On computers, Google Authenticator has an extension for the Google Chrome web browser.
And Authy is probably due to being born late, so it supports a wider variety, almost all popular operating systems: iOS, Android, Windows, Linux, MacOS and extensions on Google Chrome.
=> And obviously, at this point, Authy also broke Google Authenticator.
#4. Facade (main interface)
This depends on each person’s Guu, I think it’s the same. But to be fair, Authy has a more modern design than Google Authenticator.
=> This is for you to score yourself.
#5. In conclusion….
Well, in short, I’m very satisfied with my decision to switch from Google Authenticator to Authy. Feel more secure having a backup machine.
But to be fair, in terms of absolute security, Google Authenticator is doing better. It could be said, Google Authenticator attached to your phone, also Authy then attach the account with your phone number. And the phone number is easy to hack in the way of SIM spoofing.
II. Link to download the most popular 2-factor authentication applications today
Here are the official download links of some 2-factor authentication applications, you can download to try it out. Avoid being mistakenly downloaded fake apps.
#first. Download the Authy . app
#2. Download the Google Authenticator app
#3. LastPass Authenticator download link
#4. Download link Microsoft Authenticator
Those are the two-factor authenticators that I find most popular today, in addition to some other applications such as: FreeOTP, Duo Mobile…
III. Epilogue
Here is the article compare Google Authenticator and Authy . apps that I personally noticed in a long time using both these applications.
And through this article, I think you already know which of the two applications above should be selected, right? Perhaps the only advantage of Google Authenticator is that it is a Google product
The title of this post is [thảo luận]so I hope you will give comments about your actual experience of the applications that you have used, so that you can compare more objectively.
Hope this article will be useful to you, good luck!
