Do you usually have the habit of compressing files with RAR or ZIP format?
Previously, it can be said that WinRAR is a leading file compression and decompression software on Windows computers and it is considered a default software that will have to be installed immediately after installing Win.
However, since I started working, I have realized one thing: It is better to compress the file in .ZIP format !

The reason is not that *.ZIP format compresses better than *.RAR, but simply because using ZIP format is more convenient than RAR.
The .ZIP format is open source (open source), so it is integrated by default on most operating systems today, from Windows, Linux, MacOS to Android, iOS….
It also means that you don’t need to install any software/applications to still compress and decompress ZIP files. As for the RAR format, it is not, the device must have WinRAR installed to be able to decompress it.
Imagine in your company, half use Windows, half use MacOS and see, MAC users when receiving files in .RAR format will not be comfortable at all, because they will have to install more. software to decompress.
In short…
Why should you use *.ZIP format instead of *.RAR format?
The first: Compatible with all current operating systems, by default, it supports decompression of files in *.ZIP format.
Monday: Rarely get decompression error.
RAR compressed file is different, if you compress the file with the latest version of WinRAR, but someone else’s computer is using an older version of WinRAR, it is likely to be corrupted.
=> That is also the reason why many people search how to fix RAR file decompression error so.
3rd more Is it easier to open ZIP files with your phone or tablet.
4th It’s a copyright issue. WinRAR is a commercial, copyrighted software. For individual users, you can use it comfortably, but for large companies, it will be a problem.
However, it is fair to say that the RAR format compresses better than the ZIP format (smaller compression), and WinRAR is still worthy of being one of the “default” software to have on any operating system.
Simply because WinRAR supports compressing and decompressing files in many different formats (RAR, ZIP, ISO, 7-Zip, Gzip, TAR….), if you want, you can set compression format *.ZIP as default for WinRAR always fine..
So, in my opinion, with a personal computer, you can compress the file with the RAR format to make the compressed file more optimized, and when sending the file to others, you should use the *.ZIP format.
How about you? Do you have a habit of compressing files with any format? If you still have the habit of compressing files with RAR format, you can consider switching to .ZIP format to “get along” better with everyone.
