South KoreaFrom September 2003 to July 2004, Yoo Young-cheol killed more than 20 people in Seoul, mainly targeting the wealthy and prostitutes.
Yoo Young-chul has a grudge against women and rich people, and often sneaks into luxurious houses and villas and murders wealthy owners. He also hired prostitutes to come to his apartment and kill them in the bathroom.
In the past 10 months, the murder caused by Yoo has shocked and worried the South Korean police. In the end, it was the staff of the massage parlor that Yoo frequented that arrested him.
Yoo’s hatred of the rich began at a very young age. Yoo was born on April 18, 1970 and grew up in poverty in rural Gochang County in South Korea.
Here, Yoo became jealous of a wealthy family living near his home. According to the prosecutor’s statement in the trial, Liu’s “disappointing family and financial situation” has turned into “hatred of the rich.”
When he was young, Yoo committed a series of serious crimes. He was convicted of theft in 1988 and 1991, burglary in 1993, robbery, forgery and identity theft in 1998. In 2000, Yoo was sentenced to prison for raping a 15-year-old girl. age.
Sitting in prison, he began to turn melancholy and hatred into a murder plan. Yoo read articles about South Korean serial killer Jeong Doyoung, who always targets the rich. He plans to do the same thing.
After Yoo was released from prison in September 2003, he began plotting his first murder. He buys weapons and training by killing dogs. On September 24, 2003, 13 days after being released from prison, Yoo decided to take action.
Like Zheng Duying, Liu wanted to kill the rich. He went to the high-end neighborhood of Sinsa-dong, Seoul, and then sneaked into the two-story home of 72-year-old Shumyung University professor Lee Deok-soo and his 68-year-old wife Lee Eun Hao. Before the two could react, Yoo attacked them with a hammer and then killed the victim.
Since then, Yoo has accelerated the crime rate. In October 2003, he fired again and killed three people in a house in Gugi-dong, Jongno District. In November 2003, Liu killed the millionaire’s wife in Samseong-dong, Gangnam District, and then killed the millionaire and his housekeeper in Hyehwa-dong, Jongno District.
The police were very confused. There does not seem to be any relationship between the victims, and the murderer did not take away anything of value. Except for some footprints and jammed security camera videos, investigators have no other clues about the murderer.
Not only hates rich people, Yoo also hates women, because Yoo’s wife, an employee of a female massage parlor, left him. Yoo once said that “women should not be licentious, and rich people need to know what crimes they committed”.
After the divorce, Liu had a lover who was a prostitute, but she also left him. So, Yoo’s goal is any woman who reminds him of his wife and girlfriend. Yoo started calling the prostitutes from the Seoul massage parlor to his apartment.
Seoul Police Chief Xu Junying explained: “Liu believes that being rich is the reason why he had to live a miserable life.” “After divorcing his wife who is a massage therapist, his target is women who are engaged in similar jobs.”
When Yoo brought prostitutes to his room, he would have sex with them and then beat them with a sledgehammer. Yoo also chopped off the victims’ bodies, destroyed fingerprints to prevent identification, stuffed the girls’ bodies into garbage bags, and buried them on a mountain near Fengyuan Temple.
From May to July 2004, Yoo killed at least 11 women. But the disappearance of the prostitute did not cause a sensation like the death of the rich. Only the owner of the massage parlor knew what went wrong.
As they became more and more suspicious, Yoo made a fatal mistake. He used the victim’s phone to call the massage parlor. The shopkeeper immediately recognized the missing girl’s phone number and called the police.
The police sent an officer to stop Yoo, but the man left before Yoo arrived. When the murderer entered the motel where he arranged to meet with the prostitute, it was the staff of the massage parlor that overwhelmed him.
When caught by the police, Yoo, who claimed to have an IQ of 140, pretended to have a seizure and escaped for 12 hours.
At the second arrest, he confessed to all crimes. He also agreed to lead the police to the hiding place. Because I wore a yellow raincoat on this business trip, I was dubbed the “raincoat killer” by the media.
Although “sorry” for what he did, Liu also said that if he is not caught, he will continue to kill. He even admitted to killing people who were not prostitutes or rich people at will. He confessed to killing 26 people in total.
“The media has been saying that I killed a lot of people, but for me this is just the beginning,” Yoo said in the first trial in September 2004. “I have no intention of stopping the killing.”
He also did not show any fear of what the victim did. In a letter to the police, Yoo said that he was most afraid when his son called him while dismembering his body.
“The scariest moment was when my son called and asked if I still had a cold,” Yoo said.
In December 2004, Liu Yingzhe was sentenced to death, but it has not yet been executed. Yoo is still being held in the Seoul Detention Center.
