1. 2G, 3G wave service is about to “out of date”
In Vietnam, the frequency system is overloaded and carriers are forced to turn off old network waves to serve the deployment of new network waves such as 4G and 5G. In this case, the carriers chose to turn off 2G and 3G waves because they are relatively outdated and no longer effective. Specifically, network operator Vinaphone pioneered to turn off 2G, Viettel turned off 3G in some areas to expand the deployment of brand new 4G and 5G networks with high speed. As expected, in 2023 all carriers will simultaneously turn off all 2G/3G waves.
When 2G and 3G networks are turned off, numeric keypad phones (brick phones) will not be able to receive calls. In addition, smartphones also have problems with intermittent, unclear calls due to mobile signal deviation, poor quality and inhomogeneity. To solve the above problem, you need to enable VoLTE (calling over 4G) and VoWIFI (calling over Wifi) so that you do not get “smacked” when the 2G/3G signal is turned off.
2. Advantages of VoLTE and VoWIFI
VoLTE / VoWIFI is the trend of the mobile wave technology industry, they bring great experiences during calls. The outstanding features of VoLTE/VoWIFI technology are as follows:
- Better call signal quality
- Listen – call more clearly
- Calls are not delayed (If VoLTE/VoWIFI is not activated, it will take 2-4 seconds for the phone to ring. When VoLTE/VoWIFI is activated, the phone will ring immediately).
3. How to activate VoLTE and VoWIFI of Mobifone, Vinaphone, Vietnamobile, Viettel, Itel, Reddi, Local carriers
The carriers in Vietnam have been deploying VoLTE/VoWIFI, you can activate this service by registering with the network operator (service fee is 0 VND). This service is provided on all old and new sim embryos, you just need to register without changing sim embryos.

Note: For virtual carriers Itel, Reddi, Local, you cannot activate VoLTE/VoWIFI feature directly via SMS. To activate VoLTE/VoWIFI on virtual carriers, you need to contact the switchboard for support.
Step 2: After successful activation, you will receive a message from your mobile carrier informing you that the service has been activated.
4. Enable VoLTE and VoWIFI on IOS/Android phones
When the carrier’s VoLTE/VoWIFI activation is successful, you must also enable this feature on your mobile phone to be able to use it.
4.1 On iOS phones
IOS phones currently support both of today’s leading calling technologies such as VoLTE and VoWIFI. To enable high quality calling on iPhone, do the following:
Step 1: You open Settingchoose card Mobile and select the Sim that needs to activate the VoLTE/VoWIFI feature.
Step 2: In carrier options, you select Wifi call and enable the feature Wi-Fi calling on this iPhone to enable VoWIFI.
Step 3: Next, you choose the item Voice & Data and enable the feature VoLTE to open the most advanced calling feature.
Step 4: For iPhone and iPad phones, when successfully activated, a 4G / LTE icon will appear next to the wave column. This means you are using your carrier’s VoLTE/VoWifi service.
4.2 On Android phones
On Android phones, VoLTE / VoWIFI features also appear in the settings and need to be activated to be able to use them quickly.
+ Samsung phones:
1. You open Settings => Connection => Turn on Wifi Calling
2. Open Settings => Connections => Mobile networks => Turn on VoLTE.
Note: If you have LTE/4G and 5G network options, you can also activate it
+ Xiaomi phones:
You open Settings => SIM Card & Cellular => select SIM card => enable VoLTE and call via WLAN/Wifi.

+ OPPO phones:
You open Settings => Mobile network => select SIM registration => turn on VoLTE.

When activating VoLTE and VoWIFI services on Android phones successfully, next to the network column, there will be a VoWIFI/ VoLTE icon.
