Cameras, cameras are great inventions of mankind, making it easy for us to save interesting and memorable moments in life.
These days, it’s extremely rare to find a phone or laptop that doesn’t have a small camera located just above the display.
And if you don’t have one, you can also easily turn devices that don’t have a camera available (like a desktop PC, or a laptop with a broken cam ..) into devices with a camera by using other brands’ webcams.

With the ability to take photos, record videos, video call with family, friends, Live Stream on Facebook, Youtube… Extremely flexible, the camera is also a weak point on the computer that hackers always target.
In recent years, there have been many cases of theft of photos and personal information due to webcam hacking without knowing it, causing these images to spread all over the Internet, very dangerous.
Hackers even take advantage to observe what you are typing on the computer keyboard, from which to guess passwords, bank accounts, or social network accounts … One form keyloggers !
So, in order to prevent hackers from taking advantage of your camera as a means to hack into computers, many people have chosen to do so turn off the computer camera.
But in this article I will not show you how to turn off the camera, because there is already a tutorial, but in this article I will show you how to create a notification every time the Webcam is turned on or off (on the system). Windows operating system) !
#first. Spread the curtain a bit..
Previously Webcam was really not used much !
But since Microsoft launched the Windows Hello feature – a feature similar to Apple’s FaceID system, allowing you to use your face to unlock your computer, people have paid more attention to laptops / monitors. picture with high quality webcam.
It is also impossible not to mention the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic, when people study online and families meet online, the camera is even more important.
You also can’t know you’re being secretly filmed because by default, Windows will not display a message about whether the webcam is being used by any component on the system.
Some laptops are equipped with light signals on the left / right side of the body or right next to the webcam and they will light or blink (depending on the device) when the camera is active.
However, this method does not seem to be very effective because when you are engrossed, focused on playing games, watching movies, etc., if someone comes near you, you don’t even know what to say to that small signal ^^
Meanwhile, with just a few small tweaks in the Windows Registry, we can easily display a message on the screen when our webcam is turned on or off.
For example, when you click to answer a video call on Messenger, a notification will immediately appear, and when the call ends, you will also receive a notification. Camera Off similar.
#2. Create a notification when you turn on or off Webcam on Windows
NOTE:
This way can edit the Windows Registry, so please Backup the entire Registry of the system first, so that if you accidentally delete something, you can still recover it.
Perform:
Press the key combination Windows + R
to Open the Run dialog box => then enter the command regedit
=> and click the button OK
to access the Registry Editor. In addition, you can also search with keywords Regedit
in Windows Search to open this tool ha.
Then you access the folder Capture
Follow the link below, you can paste this path directly into the address bar of the Registry and then Enter for faster access, I also often use this way because it’s convenient 😀
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\OEM\Device\Capture

If you paste the address in and Enter but it doesn’t go to the Capture folder, that means the folder doesn’t exist – this is rarely the case.
But if it happens, the fix is very simple as follows: Go to the folder Device instead of Capture => and then right click on the folder Device choose New=> Key to create a new folder and name it Capture.
Usually when there is already a folder Capture
then it will also have a key named NoPhysicalCameraLED
in the right box.
If you don’t have this key either, just create a new key with the same name by right-clicking in the right box (anywhere) => then select
New
=>DWORD (32-bit) Value
done. If you already have one like me, go to the next step.
Now right click on the key NoPhysicalCameraLED
=> then choose Modify…
or faster double-click on its name to open the window to edit the values of the keys in the Registry.
Then a window Edit DWORD (32-bit) Value
appears and please edit the value in the box Value Data
are from 0
Fort 1
all the rest stay the same and then press the . button OK
to save.
That’s it, now restart your computer to apply the changes.
And after completing the steps in this article, every time you video call someone or have any software that uses Webcam on your computer…
Windows will immediately notify Camera On as shown below and when the Webcam is no longer in use, you will also receive a notification Camera Off on the screen.
But it must also be noted that, not all applications that use Webcam are detected and displayed using status messages by Windows, so this is not the most perfect way, you should still be careful. Can cover the camera when not in use!
#3. Epilogue

This is a very useful way to help you control the activity of your webcam, avoid being secretly filmed, or hack your computer’s camera. If you find this article good, don’t forget to share it so more people know about this trick. Good luck !
