DuckDuckGo is one of the best privacy-preserving search engines, and more powerful than Google. It has improved a lot lately and works pretty well for general web searching. However, DuckDuckGo (or DDG for short) has some cool “secret” features that most users are unaware of. . If you’re a DDG fan, you might enjoy enhancing your search experience with these tips.

25 “secret” features hidden in DuckDuckGo
1. Jump to a specific website
Type ! in front of your favorite website name and enter it directly in the website. This is like Google’s “feeling lucky” feature but in DDG terms it’s called “bangs”.
There are short forms for web pages, which will be suggested as we type.
Entering a search term right after the site name will take you to the required results from that site.
2. Convert Text to ASCII
Figlet is one of the interesting Linux commands. It converts any text into ASCII format.
Type figlet before any search term; it will print the ASCII output of that phrase without opening the terminal.
3. Check social network status
Using ‘@’ in front of someone’s twitter name will show their status (followers,…).
4. Create strong passwords
Enter ‘password’ followed by the length of the password and DDG will generate a strong, unique password for you.
5. Generate random passphrase
Enter ‘random passphrase’ to generate a passphrase, usually 4 words long.
6. Get the cheatsheet
Enter the cheatsheet after the phrase with the content you want. If there is a cheatsheet for the searched term, it will immediately show up on the search page.
7. Color display from color code
Type ‘color’ followed by the hex code of the color you want to test and it will show what that color looks like.
8. Generate a random number
Searching for ‘random number’ will output a random number between 0 and 1

9. Convert to Binary and Other Formats
Entering a binary number and enclosing it with ‘binary’ converts it from binary to decimal
Similarly, it works for hexadecimal and octal.
10. Find sounds that rhyme
Type ‘what rhymes with’ followed by the word you want to rhyme with. Quite convenient for anyone who writes poetry or plays rap.
11. Get Ramanujan’s numerical value, Pi and other constants
Type in the name of the constant with the value you want and you get it right in the search results page.
12. Check who is currently in space
Type ‘people in space’ and you’ll get a list of people currently in space. It also shows how long they have been in space.
13. Check if a website is down
If you want to know if a particular website is down, just use the search query “is xyz.com is down”.
14. Get good quotes
Type a word followed by quotes and it will bring up the quotes associated with that word.
15. Get sample text
Search for ‘lorem ipsum’ and you’ll get 5 sample text snippets. Very useful for web developers.
16. Get the calendar of any month
Enter calendar followed by day, month and year and DDG will give you the calendar for that month.
17. Generate QR codes
Search for ‘qr’ followed by any text, be it a link or whatever, DDG will generate the corresponding QR Code for you.
18. Get Some CSS Animation
Search for ‘css animations’ for some examples of CSS animations.
19. Expand a shortened link
Instead of going to a spammy site, expand the shortened URL and see the actual URL of the site.
Use the expand keyword followed by the shortened URL and it will display the actual destination URL.
20. Get HTML code for special characters
Search for ‘html chars’ and you’ll get a long list of HTML entities and their descriptions.
21. Why should I use this?
This is pretty useless. If you enter the phrase “why should I use this?” it will show “cause it’s awesome” at the top of the search results page. DuckDuckGo is praising itself.
22. Convert uppercase and lowercase letters
Use the lowercase query with the word you want to turn lowercase.
Use uppercase to display results in uppercase.

Searching for ‘encode’ with a URL will give you an encoded URL
24. Motherboard
Search for ‘Motherboard’ and you can see the DuckDuckGo logo on the left side has been changed. It will display a random logo.

Search for ‘color codes’ and you get an HTML color palette. This one is more for developers and web designers.
